Everything Colour! Workshop
Students will learn how to properly mix tinted mortars with liquid and dry pigments, explore the different ways to incorporate them as part of their background, and use them as a decorative adhesive. Erin will also teach her signature technique for making colourful layered "dots".
Students will create 2 separate abstract 9" x 12" pieces exploring the multitude of ways that tinted mortar can be used. Participants will also learn to build substrates from scratch and install hanging hardware.
Using a variety of tesserae, students will have the opportunity to see how subtle colour changes and textures create depth and visual interest with their mortar under-painted substrates.
The key objective of this course is to start thinking about using the substrate, adhesive, and tesserae as equal partners in the overall design of a mosaic; using mortar as a major player in the design and not just in a supporting role.
